90 napig voltam kómában, akkor születtek a hegeim. A sebek az arcomon, a nyakamon és az ágyékomon a lélegeztető gép miatt vannak rajtam. A tüdőm tönkrement egy tüdőgyulladás következtében, és ezért a lélegeztetőgép szállította a vérembe az oxigént, ez tartott életben 66 napon keresztül. A többi kerek heg a testemen a mellkasi csövek miatt van, mert amikor mindkét tüdőm összeomlott, a fertőzés és a levegő beszorult a mellkasomba. A hátamon lévő heg egy műtétből ered, amit azért végeztek el rajtam, mert a mellkasom annyira tele volt vérrel, hogy az már a szívemre is kihatott. Az egész akkor kezdődött, amikor a francia Ardeche-be mentünk osztálykirándulni. Június 26-án indultam el az iskolából, és október 24-én értem haza. Az egész időt egy francia kórház intenzív osztályán töltöttem Montpellier-ben. Soha nem mondtak le rólam, küzdöttek értem.

Ezek a hegek a túlélésem térképei, és büszke vagyok rájuk. Erőt és egyéniséget adnak. Nagyon ritka, hogy valaki túléli ezt a fertőzést – és én igazából kettőt is túléltem, mert az első tüdőgyulladás után a kórházban felülfertőződtem MRSA-val, amitől több szervem is leállt. De mi tovább harcoltunk. A torkomnál is van egy apró hegem a gégemetszés miatt. Furcsán éreztem magam, mert amikor felébredtem, semmi hangom nem volt, de nem féltem. Csak hittem.

The scar on my back is from surgery I had because my chest had filled with so much blood that it was impacting my heart. All this began when I went on a school trip to the Ardeche in France. I left on the 26th June with the school and came home on the 24th October. I was in a French hospital in Montpellier, in Intensive care all that time. They never gave up on me and fought with me. My scars are the map of my survival and I'm very proud of them. They give me strength and individuality. It's very rare for people to survive this infection - and in actual fact I survived two, because after the first pneumonia, I suffered a second infection - hospital born MRSA and went into multiple organ failure. We all fought on. I have a small scar on my throat where I had a tracheostomy - it was strange to have no voice when I woke up, but I wasn't afraid - I only believed." @nelly.may.joan

2014 decemberében fibromyalgiával diagnosztizáltak, ami egy krónikus fájdalom. Majd később, 2015-ben krónikus fáradtság-szindrómával is. Egyik sem nevezhető túl ideálisnak a táncolás iránti szenvedélyem miatt, mivel nagyon rossz hatással voltak az ízületeimre és az izmaimra. Ahogy rosszabbodott az állapotom, meghúzódott a térdszalagom, és már nem támasztotta megfelelően alá a csípőízületeimet. Járás közben a csípőm bármikor kificamodhatott. Végül 2017 február elsején megműtötték a térdszalagomat, aminek köszönhetően újra fájdalom nélkül járhatok és táncolhatok. Az évek során sok más heget is szereztem, de a csípőmön lévő heg az, amit büszkén mutatok meg.

Both conditions didn't agree well with my passion for dancing - as my joints and muscles were badly affected. As my condition got worse, my IT band tightened and no longer supported my hip joint properly. Everytime I walked I could easily dislocated my hip as the socket wasn't closed. Eventually on the 1st February 2017 I had an operation to lengthen the IT band which allowed me to walk and dance again pain free. Orsócsontok nélkül születtem. Egyéves voltam, amikor a jobb kezemet műtötték, majd egy évvel később az orvosok úgy döntöttek, hogy a balt is megoperálják. Két különböző orvos műtötte a két kezemet. Az első jól sikerült. A második alatt viszont komplikációk léptek fel. Az orvosok nem tudták, hogy a jobb kezemben másképp vannak a csontok, mint a balban. Amikor 15 éves lettem, észrevettem, hogy a bal csuklómmal valami gond van, úgyhogy ismét kés alá kellett feküdnöm. Ezt a betegséget hemimeliának hívják, százezer emberből egynél fordul elő. Mindig bajom volt a hegeimmel, nem tudtam miattuk elfogadni magam, és másoknak is problémája volt velük. Most viszont azt gondolom, hogy ez vagyok én. Végre úgy érzem, hogy nem kell őket elrejtenem, mert hozzátartoznak a valós énemhez.

14 éves koromban megmentettem egy Fly nevű kóbor lovat, és azon nyomban beleszerettem. Egyik reggel, szokás szerint a lovakat etettem a mezőn. Fly meg akart rúgni egy másik lovat, de elvétette, és arcba rúgott. Először teljesen lesokkolt. Fiatal voltam, egyedül egy mezőn… beborítva vérrel. Pár kórházi látogatás után ez a heg már az arcom részévé vált. Négy év telt el azóta, a hegem pedig rátapadt az arccsontomra, azért látszik annyira. Bár lett volna lehetőségem arra, hogy eltávolíttassam, de sohasem tenném.

Nem hiszem, hogy a szépségnek szimmetrikusnak kell lennie.

Now it's been 4 years since I was kicked, the scar has created an adhesion to my cheek bone which is why is is noticeable. Although being faced with an opportunity to remove the scar, I never would. 13 éves koromban kezdtem el vagdosni magam, és azóta is küzdök vele. Az a baj, hogy az idő előrehaladtával ez egyre rosszabb lesz. A végén olyan súlyos károkat okozol magadnak, amit sohasem gondoltál volna, amikor belekezdtél. Ez tényleg egy függőség, ahol eljuthatsz arra a pontra, amikor már a plasztikai sebészek sem képesek eltüntetni a hegeid. Ezért nem tehetsz mást, mint azt, hogy megszereted őket annyira, hogy lassanként eltűnjön minden negatív kapcsolat, ami a saját magad csonkításához köti őket – a fájdalommal együtt. A hegeim az én történetemet mesélik el, és soha nem fogom hagyni, hogy ezt bárki véleménye megváltoztassa.

Az én hegeim egy tűzből származnak, ami egy a családon belüli erőszakhoz kapcsolódik. 29 éves koromban égtem meg, hosszú ideig tartott, amíg mindezt el tudtam fogadni. Az a tudat ad nyugalmat, hogy a hegeim tesznek azzá, aki ma vagyok. Ezek a legértékesebb, legdrágább ékszereim. Túléltem, és ha a hegeim látványa segít másoknak is, az nekem is jó.

A fülemen lévő heg hat évvel ezelőtt keletkezett, Leedsben. Barátokkal voltam, amikor megtámadott minket hat fickó. Verekedés lett belőle, amely során az egyik pasas beleharapott a fülembe, miközben épp a földön dulakodtunk. Az arcomon lévő heget Hong Kongban kaptam nemrégiben. Beletettek valamit az italomba, nem emlékszem, mi történt. Elkavarodtam a barátaimtól egy fél órára, és amikor megtaláltak, ott volt a vágás az arcomon. A mai napig nem tudok semmit felidézni abból az estéből. A kulcscsontomon lévő hegem pedig egy biciklis balesetből származik. Beletettek egy lapot, amit később eltávolítottak.

This turned into a fight, in which one of the guys bit into my ear as we were grappling to the floor. My face scar happened recently in Hong Kong. My drink was spiked and I have no idea what happened. I managed to get split up from my friends for half an hour, and they found me with the cut in my face. To this day I have no recollection of the event, or the rest of the evening. My collar bone scar is from a cycling accident in Regents Park - I had a plate put in and then later removed."
